Although I am entitled to two free checked bags, I choose to check one and have a regulation size carry-on. The Silhouette 12 29" is great for the check-through. Huge is good! I was advised to get a bag that did NOT open in the center because those bags require more space to be fully opened. Again, the S12 line fulfills that goal. Unless I need something in the lid of the S12, I can prop it against a wall.
As for the zipper pulls, I use 2 TSA locks per bag. One connects the pulls from the main compartment. I connect the pulls from the outside compartments with another lock which keeps them from flapping around and from unzipping. I have never lost a zipper pull.
I am headed around the world in April, 2013 and fully expect that these bags will be quite satisfactory. Samsonite has never failed me before!

Hello. I bought this bag online and was very disappointed when I opened the box. The bag itself looked great and sturdy, but it was huge!!! It can be useful only if you plan to move completely from one city to another. I hope my review will help others to avoid my mistake. Take care

My wife and I have a full set including two of the full size spinners. After the first trip one of them had the outer compartment zipper pulls removed. On the next trip the other one suffered the same fate. The material is holding up, but the zippers and pulls are horrible! We spent a lot of money on the pieces and thought we were buying the best we could at the time.
